Acne scarring in men, women, adolescents and adults causes great emotional and social distress. Rhytec Portrait is effective in reducing acne scarring and smoothing the skin. Portrait is hot nitrogen gas (nitrogen plasma) applied to the numb skin to assist in removing damaged skin, and quickly regrowing healthy smoother skin beneath it.

After a few days, the old skin peels away, revealing much improved new skin. The Portrait results develop and improve over weeks to months, some improvements continue to develop over 1-2 years! Acne Scarring for People of Color

FRAXEL is a fractional laser treatment delivered over a series of 6 to 8 treatments spaced out by 3-7 weeks. FRAXEL may be used on ethnic as well as Caucasian skin types. This is an important feature for people of color who have acne scarring.  Hypatia has a special program for minimizing risk of hyperpigmentation to darker skin types. FRAXEL can treat scarring anywhere on the body, and we have used it successfully to treat body scars from motor vehicle accidents, face chest back acne scarring, and surgical scars, to name a few. FRAXEL smoothes out the rough texture of scarring and blends the color difference between the scar and surrounding tissue.

Aging Eyes

Eyes show early signs of aging on most of us, and we discover "crinkly", thinning skin around the eyes. Often the eyes look more aged than the rest of the face.  This is partly because the skin around the eyes is very thin, and because there are no sebaceous glands around the eyes.  Thus, the skin becomes very dry.

Hypatia Clinic offers very effective treatment aimed at shrinking lax skin and regenerating the skin to produce smooth, much younger looking skin. Two of these treatments are: Rhytec Portrait, and Eyes by Thermage. We often combine these two treatments to create much younger looking eyes. Thermage is radiofrequency tissue tightening that snugs up deeper collagen, and Portrait is nitrogen plasma skin regeneration, which eliminates much surface wrinkling and also tightens skin. Aging Hands

Age Spots

Melasma

Melasma is a discoloration of the face of women exposed to estrogen hormones from any one or several sources: pregnancy, birth control pills (even if you only took them for a short time), and hormone replacement therapy.  The dark discoloration is often symmetrical on the face (and sometimes neck), and may look like freckles or darker patches of pigment.  The are most often on the cheeks, and they worsen on exposure to sunlight.  Some darker complexions are more proned to developing melasma, and melasma should always be considered a possibility in a woman with discoloration on her face.  It is important to diagnose, since some treatments make melasma worse. Mouth Lines & Peri-Oral Wrinkles

Vertical lines (affectionately known as "smokers lines", and you didn't have to smoke to get them !) around the mouth are one of the most aging, and troublesome problems women are challenged with.  As we age, we lose fat and collagen in our lips, causing the skin outside them to "pleat."
