The procedure itself is administered in office. You arrive at your physician’s about an hour before the procedure for preparations and medication to assist with anxiety and to make the procedure more comfortable. The radio frequency (RF) energy uniformly heats the dermis while cooling and protecting the epidermis. The top layers of your skin are protected with a cooling spray while radio frequency energy heats the collagen in the lower layers.
This heating action causes deep structures of your skin to tighten immediately. Over time, new collagen grows to further tighten your skin and produce a more youthful appearance. Recently published studies, conducted by Thermage, show that measurable tightening improvements appear gradually over 2 to 6 months after a single treatment session. However, many patients report seeing an earlier response.
