Cosmetic Procedure Pre Treatment

Proper preparation for cosmetic treatments is important for a good outcome in the case of several specific modalities:

1. Rhytec Portrait (TM) - proper skin hydration prior to Portrait is essential in obtaining the proper depth of treatment with nitrogen plasma skin regeneration treatment. A hydrating facial prior to the Portrait along with a hydrating topical anesthetic applied for at least an hour prior are indespensible. Also, if the skin has been exposed to sun, it is vital to "bleach" the skin with a medication such as Triluma (TM) and high SPF sunscreen for 4-6 weeks prior to treatment. Finally, a little recognized fact: taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications prior to, during and for about four months after Portrait (and any collagen building proceedure) will reduce or prevent effective collagen building. These medications include, but are not limited to: ibuprofen, Motrin(TM), naproxen, Naprosyn (TM), aspirin. You must discuss stopping these medications with your doctor, and discuss alternatives if needed with her/him.

2. Thermage (TM) - the most crucial preparation for Thermage involves discontinuation of and refraining from use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, as discussed above for Rhytec Portrait. These anti-inflammatory agents reduce the collagen reaction to the Thermage and other treatments, thereby reducing the amount of collagen produced and results produced by the treatment. Stopping and avoiding these over the counter and prescription medications can greatly increase the skin tightening and lifting results of Thermage, and other treatments. Always consult with your physician prior to starting or stopping any medication, do not do this on your own.
